Hey! I enjoyed the article written by Atherton. I always felt the guy (Kambli) never took his cricket too seriously though he had (has??) plenty of talent.

I did not read the entire article...(sorry I am biased, can't stand Atherton!)but I am a bit tierd of the whole "poor Kambli" story.

There are people who live under continuous glare of the media-ten times in excess of what Kambli had to face-(for instance, MSD) and yet don't lose their bearings.

Kambli at least had Ramakant Achrekar as a guru, and Sachin as a friend and role-model; MSD did not have such a support system
(within the cricketing fraternity).

On a diff note, he interacts with the Bollywood junta-John Abraham refers to him as a close friend-and yet seems to be unfazed; his feet are firmly on the ground.

I could go on and on.

Actually, to be fair, Yuvi ain't too shabby either. Despite his "Bolly affairs", he hasn't lost his focus.

Kambli needs to grow up and take some responsibility for what he has become.

You know, L, a lot of the bellyaching I hear/read about is from the media. As far as I can tell, Vinod is not all woe is me as he is portrayed to be.

He may not be as close to SRT as he probably was earlier but then very few of us have friendships that stay very close for 20 years. There are ebbs and lows.

Masada is an exceptional fellow. For a guy who barely had any high schooling, he is such an educated head on those broad shoulders of his. You know I briefly resented him getting the captaincy over Laxman (the resentment went away during the first Test he captained and on watching how Laxman and he are constantly chit-chatting and joking with each there behind the wicket). He is just the right guy for this phase of Indian cricket. Whzat a player. What a guy. Now, can you do something about these purported actress-flings of his? Does not gel well...
