The return of the King

Shah Rukh Khan and Farhan Akhtar are returning this Christmas with a sequel to Don.  A teaser trailer was released a couple of days ago.  It looks sleek and intriguing, except that at the very end the whole effect is lost with a smirky SRK and an inane closing line.  Oh well...

Let's start this post from an unlikely angle. Years ago, Sylvester Stallone wrote and acted in Rocky which, by the way, won an Oscar for Best Picture. (If you're counting at home, that's Sylvester Stallone movies: 1 Oscar, Alfred Hitchcock and Charlie Chaplin movies: 0 Oscars).

Apart from providing fodder for 5 additional Rocky stories as well as countless rags-to-riches sports movies, Rocky popularized a pose, one that was immortalized in Philadelphia with a statue of the same. Here's the pose at the end of the short video (the extremely recognizable and cool Rocky theme music is an added bonus as you watch this training montage).

Quite a collection there. My favorite is still the Videocon one with Shah Rukh Khan. The Mind it one is a close second.

These days Shah Rukh Khan goes around loudly (and proudly) proclaiming that his name is Khan.

It wasn't always that way, you know. Why, just a few years ago he was singing a completely different tune. How fickle-minded of him!

When you get two people to sit down in front of a camera, ask them questions, and let the camera roll, after a while their personalities come through. With their movie My Name is Khan on the horizon, Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol are doing the rounds.

This is the first time I am seeing a long, unedited, full-fledged interview of either of them and I like the way the interview plays out. After a while, especially in the second part, their real personalities (and mutual comfort level) comes through quite well. SRK and Kajol talk about their camaraderie, their choice or roles, and lots of other things. Fun stuff.

I know which of these two movies I will actually watch by choice. And it will be in spite of the fact that I think Jackie Chan is no Pat Morita.



There are so many things odd about My name is Khan but I shall reserve comments until the movie is released on the grounds that it is improper to judge a book by its cover preview.

Polished pursuit of perfection

Karan Johar likes directing movies with Shah Rukh Khan in them. His latest - My name is Khan - is no different. Based on the preview, which was released recently, it seems to be a mishmash with many different themes running through it. In other words - a typical Bollywood melodrama.
