A stitch in time

1) Something I have wanted to know forever but never really thought about finding out the answer for is how a sewing machine works. If you share my wonder, click here for the answer.

2)There's nothing common about the wealth being squandered by the authorities as India prepares to host the Commonwealth Games. Can anyone say White Elephant?

Here's a sampling of the irresponsible way in which everything is being managed. Read the entire article for a larger picture.
Ceremonies — Rs 106 cr to Rs 375 cr: The budget has almost tripled since the first estimates. Initially, sum of Rs 106.58 crore was increased to Rs 250 crore by the Group of Ministers last December. This was again increased by Rs 50 crore. Now, the committee is demanding another Rs 75 crore for special effects, staging scenic props, make-up and costumes. A R Rahman’s hefty fees of Rs 5 crore has also been factored in. Wizcraft, which is executing the opening and closing ceremonies, is being paid Rs 40 crore.
3) Here's a stat that is entirely unsurprising. Rahul Dravid has now played more balls than any other batsman in the entire history of Test cricket! 27,067 and counting, to be precise.

4) Watch a slideshow or click on the series of images that document the depleting glaciers of the Himalayas. Not really a matter for concern, except that these glaciers meet the water needs of only about half the word's population or so.

Here's a sampling:

And another one:

5) For no reason whatsoever, here's a time lapse video taken in Idaho. I do love time lapse videos.

6) Finally, do you have 93 minutes to spare for a movie that you MUST see? No, really, you must.

Dude - Thanks for sharing the info on a sewing machine. I have always been intrigued about the way it works! The other thought that always made me curious but not curious enough to find an answer would be "For any given song does composing the tune come first or the lyrics?".

BTW, CWG is long gone as Indian Media and Public's memory is very short. CWG will be in the public domain until the next scam is discovered and there are two of them already. The 2G Spectrum FDS and Adarsh FDS (Fairprice Distribution Scheme or in other words "ration shop" which sell well below market rates)

Prince and Queen will still talk about garibi hatao and rojgar yojana, will pull off a few stunts by visitng huts and sharing a meal, media goes gaga and makes them headlines and the Prince will be the King in 2014 or as soon as MMS makes another trip to the Hospital.

KK,
I apologize for the delay in responding (ore on that in my next post).

The folks that made millions from the CWG knew that it was only a matter of weathering the storm. Once the Games were done (and India did better than expected) a new scandal would come and wipe their misdeeds off the front pages. Depressingly sad, but true.

Makes the blood boil to even think about it.
