God of Little things

Years ago, David Foster Wallace penned what is considered to be one of his calling cards as a sports writer - Federer as a religious experience. It went a long way towards cementing the exalted status that many fans of Roger have today. The writing was poetic and informative at the same time.

After Sachin Tendulkar crafted his latest boy-on-a-burning-deck instant classic in Hyderabad writers in India and across the world were moved to wax eloquent about the Little Master (Ian Chappell comes readily to mind). As befits a guy who has been performing at the highest level for two decades, a series of stunning stats were generated in its wake.

Dileep Premachandran talks glowingly about Tendulkar, softly retracing his steps from Faisalabad to Hyderabad.

Prem Panicker does a DFW and invokes religion, God, and Tendulkar in the same essay. Read the essay in its entirety. It is Panicker at near his best.
